Refunding a buyer on ebay problems

Hello, I had to go through the process of refunding a buyer on ebay…a returns claim was made and when going to my paypal my balance was -£140 & the original buyers payment was held so I deposited that money to clear the negative balance. After receiving my item back I did the refund and the held payment has disappeared & I have been notified an e-cheque has been sent £4.00 from my paypal balance & the rest from my bank account?? 1. whats happened to the held funds? 2. I have no money in my bank…. 3. why take money from my bank? when the original payment would be used for the refund?
