PayPal Pool – US to Canadian dollars

Hello! I am trying to get a PayPal Pool together to collect money for a friend who’s in a very tough spot. The friend is in Canada, I am in the states. I have a mix of her friends from Canada and the US willing to donate, so we can discretely transfer the money to that friend and help them out. They are in an abusive marriage situation. With currency exchange fees, what is the best way to proceed? Should someone from Canada run the pool, so it defaults to Canadian currency? When I started a pool, it defaults to USD for donations, and I don’t see a way to pick the currency you’re donating in. Any and all help appreciated! I am not finding an answer to this in the help sections.
