Unauthorized pre-authorization

Description

I stayed at a motel 10 days ago. I made a reservation and paid for my room beforehand. At check in the worker asked for a card to put on file for incidentals. She mistakenly pre-authorized my card for the room instead. I didn’t realize it until after check-out. The motel is willing to cancel the transaction but for some reason it doesn’t show up in there system anymore. My funds are still on hold 10 days later. Is there anything that can be done to clear it and if not how long until it clears itself?
