Question about purchase

Description

I have a PayPal account but don’t have a credit card or bank account to connect to it, so I automatically can’t top up my paypal balance. I created a paypal.me link and I have a friend that can help me by sending me money. I need 38 bucks for a purchase, every time I press buy (just to see what it does now that i have 0$) it asks for a credit card. If my friend sends me the 38 bucks will I be able to do my purchase without having to add a credit card or a bank account? Thanks for your time.
