Careful opening a business account. Paypal has been charging me a higher fee% for the last 4 years

I set up a business account years ago because I was receiving a lot of payments via paypal. I signed up to the business account primarily because it advertised « lower fees » for sellers. This was a lie. I just recently discovered my rate for sales is 5% plus $0.05 for every sale, instead of the standard rate of 2.9% + $0.30 cents. I’ve figured out that this might be because my account was set up for « micro-transactions ». To be clear, I never signed up for this. None of my sales are for less than $10, so it wouldn’t make financial sense for me to sign up for this.
I advise that if you have a business account, go to your paypal account page and at the bottom left there will be several very small word links. Click on the one that says « Fees » and it should pull up your personal account fees. I assume most people would see 2.9% + .30 per sale, but if you’re like me, you’ve been getting swindled by Paypal. Once you’re locked into the 5% rate, there is no option to go back to the standard fees. I have contacted support about this and am still waiting to hear back. I am very angry that I’ve paid hundreds of dollars more than I would have for fees when I never signed up for the micro-transaction rate of 5%. I recommend you take a moment to check what your specific fees are for your own accounts.
