I NEED A HELP A ADVICE PLEASE BEFORE I OPEN CASE AND LOSE MY MONEY

Lost Shipment: What to Do When Your Supplier Disappears

Dear readers,

Today, we’re dealing with a particularly frustrating situation shared by one of our community members, and I believe it’s a scenario many of us could face in the world of online shipping and orders with international suppliers. Let’s dive in and see what steps can be taken to address this issue.

### The Problem

The scenario here is quite clear: a customer orders two items from a supplier but only receives the smaller of the two shipping packages. The bigger one, which was supposed to be delivered, shows as ‘delivered’ on the tracking system, but it never made it to the recipient. It’s a classic case of the supplier vs. the recipient’s dilemma, compounded by communication issues, leading to potential monetary loss amounting to 1800USD.

### Steps Taken

The individual has already communicated the issue with the supplier, but after a month, there’s been no resolution. Being stuck in this situation, the individual is hesitant about contacting PayPal, knowing that the tracking information might work against them.

### What’s Next?

1. **Document Everything:**
– Keep a record of all your communications with the supplier, along with screenshots of tracking information and any emails from the postal service indicating the status of your shipment.

2. **Do Not Rush to PayPal:**
– While PayPal is a very useful mediator, it’s crucial to gather as much evidence as you can before escalating through this route. As mentioned, the tracking information can sometimes work against you.

3. **Alternative Shipping Complaints:**
– Visit the USPS website and submit a formal inquiry or complaint. Although they may not be liable for lost items, they can track and provide insight into what happened to your package.
– If possible, get in touch with the local post office to which the package was supposed to be delivered. Sometimes, items end up being returned to the sender or misdirected.

4. **Ask the Marketplace for Help:**
– If the transaction was done on a platform like eBay or another similar marketplace, open a case there. They have their own set of rules and possibly a dedicated team to handle such disputes.

5. **Escalate it to the Supplier’s Marketplace:**
– Depending on where you made the purchase, the marketplace (e.g., Alibaba, Amazon, or Etsy) might have policies in place to help in such situations. Leveraging this can sometimes pressure the supplier into action or can result in the marketplace facilitating a refund or resolution on their end.

6. **Legal Advice:**
– In cases of significant monetary value, legal advice is viable. While it can be quite a rigorous and expensive process, in situations where the amount at stake is considerable, a letter from a lawyer might bring the supplier to the negotiating table.

### Preventive Measures

Going forward, a few tips can be useful in avoiding such situations all together:

– **Use Reliable Shippers:**
– Whenever possible, use reliable shipping services and ensure they offer tracking and insurance for your packages.
– **Split High-Value Orders:**
– For high-value packages, splitting them into smaller shipments might reduce the impact of any loss.
– **Keep Copies of Communications:**
– Always keep detailed and organized copies of all communications with suppliers. This includes emails, terms of service, and sales documents.
– **Read the Fine Print:**
– Always read the disclaimers and conditions of the services and suppliers you engage with to preemptively understand the recourse options you have.

While we always hope that such situations never arise, being prepared for them and knowing how to respond is the best policy. With a bit of persistence and the right steps, hope for a resolution without having to lose your money.

Feel free to add your own thoughts or experiences in the comments below, and if anyone has more legal insights or advice, please share them!

Stay safe and keep trading wisely!
