How much ram can python use? – Stack Overflow
So its possible for a python program to use more than physical memory. But the OS Virtual memory system controls what pages are in physical memory and what pages are swapped out to disk. So you could be using 64 GB of memory, but only a fraction of the most recently used pages are actually in physical memory at any time. And some of that physical memory will hold parts of the OS that run frequently, like those virtual memory allocation functions. Also: the memory allocated to a process is …

How much RAM do you need to compile high level languages like Python …
There is no particular minimum memory requirement for Python. While it’s high level, it’s not compiled, it’s interpreted real time. Python was released in ’91 and anywhere between 1MB and 4MB was pretty much the norm. I do have some Python code that executes pretty darn well on 256MB and 512MB machines. Yet I’m also working on something that’s sluggish even on a 64GB machine. It all boils down to what are you programming

How to get current CPU and RAM usage in Python?
RAM memory % used: 76.9 RAM Used (GB): 23.32 Get current RAM usage using the OS module. The os module is also useful for calculating the ram usage in the CPU. The os.popen() method with flags as input can provide the total, available and used memory. This method opens a pipe to or from the command. The return value can be read or written depending on whether a mode is ‘r’ or ‘w’.

Measuring memory usage in Python: it’s tricky! – Python⇒Speed
2.8GB in RAM (=resident memory) 0.2GB on disk An alternative: allocated memory It would be useful to measure allocated memory, to always get 3GB back regardless of whether the operating system put the data in RAM or swapped it to disk. This would give us consistent results, and also tell us how much memory the program actually asked for.

Memory Management in Python – Real Python
Python uses a portion of the memory for internal use and non-object memory. The other portion is dedicated to object storage (your int, dict, and the like). Note that this was somewhat simplified. If you want the full picture, you can check out the CPython source code, where all this memory management happens.

It turns out that it is not difficult to figure out how much memory is actually consumed. In this article, I’ll walk you through the intricacies of a Python object’s memory management and show how to measure the consumed memory accurately. In this article, I focus solely on CPython—the primary implementation of the Python programming language. The experiments and conclusions here don’t apply to other Python implementations like IronPython, Jython, and PyPy.

Sounds like you’re using a 32-bit edition of Python. A 32-bit system only has enough memory addresses for 3.67 GB of memory, which is why every modern OS is 64-bit. Upgrade your version of Python to a 64-bit verison and you should be able to access as much as you want. 3 Reply dionys • 6 yr. ago That sounds awesome :D.

Some tasks need to store results in memory while you work on them, but again, for most tasks, you should be fine with a low amount of RAM. Remember that applications like the browser and your IDE will use a lot of RAM, so if you’re not on a tight budget, go for more RAM in general. 4GB might do, but that is on the very low end of the scale and you will see that most of it will probably be used throughout the day.

Monitoring memory usage of a running Python program
Method 3: Using the classic memory profiler. Memory profiler from PyPI is a python library module used for monitoring process memory. It uses psutil code to create a decorator and then uses it to get the memory distribution. With this pypi module by importing one can save lines and directly call the decorator.
