Buyer has sent Echeque but it is not showing?

A buyer has told me a couple of hours ago they have sent the money for an item and it is being sent as an echeque, however there is no pending transaction showing in my activity nor have I received an email saying there is an echeque pending. How long should it take to show on my side that the transaction is pending, I am aware it can take a while for it to clear but I am not seeing any sign of anything even pending?
