Fossil – National Geographic Society
6 févr. 2023Fossilization usually occur in organisms with hard, bony body parts, such as skeletons, teeth, or shells. Soft-bodied organisms, such as worms, are rarely fossilized. Sometimes, however, the sticky resin of a tree can become fossilized. This is called fossilized resin or amber.
Our Projects
We identify, invest in, and support a diverse, global community of National Geographic Explorers who exemplify our mission and form the heart and soul of the Society. Collectively, these 6,000+ bold individuals represent more than 140 countries and a vast array of backgrounds, perspectives, and fields.
Resources for Educators
Engage with National Geographic Explorers and transform learning experiences through live events, free maps, videos, interactives, and other resources.
Apply for a Grant
Since 1888, the National Geographic Society has awarded over 15,000 grants worldwide, which empowers recipients, who we call National Geographic Explorers.
Ways to Give
We’ve built a sustainable, innovative business model that allows us to invest every philanthropic dollar directly to our Explorers and programs.. When you support the National Geographic Society, not only are you supporting your passion for the planet, but you also help protect its wonder.
Technology and Innovation
Extreme Exploration Deep Ocean Dropcam. Deep Ocean Dropcam is a low-cost, low-logistics research tool for probing the deep ocean. These fully autonomous systems combine a high-definition camera and lights inside a glass pressure housing, and can capture high-quality imagery of the deep sea floor.
National Geographic Society
National Geographic has long told the story of our human journey, and that must include shining a light on our own past. This means facing up to our history of colonialism, racism, and sexism — including who was allowed to be an Explorer, who was able to tell stories, and whose stories were told.

List Some Ways That Fossils Can Be Preserved | Sciencing
This method of preservation occurs when dissolved minerals in ground water fill the cellular spaces such as microscopic cavities and pores of plants and animals. The dissolved minerals then crystallize and produce stony fossils in the shape of the animal or plant, which contains most of the original solid material.
