Why do muscles work in pairs? | Socratic
1 Answer Judy O. Aug 17, 2014 It is all done this way to produce smooth movement. Muscles work in pairs and sometimes in more than pairs (2) because it makes the movement smooth. The muscle that is making the move is called the prime mover while another is called the antagonist and it resists the move. It slowly lets go.

9.6C: How Skeletal Muscles Produce Movements
17 janv. 2023Muscles exist in groupings that work to produce movements by muscle contraction. Muscles are classified according to their actions during contractions as agonists, antagonists, or synergists. For muscle pairings referred to as antagonistic pairs, one muscle is designated as the extensor , which contracts to open the joint, and the flexor …

Interactions of Skeletal Muscles | Anatomy and Physiology I
The bone connection is why this muscle tissue is called skeletal muscle. Interactions of Skeletal Muscles in the Body To pull on a bone, that is, to change the angle at its synovial joint, which essentially moves the skeleton, a skeletal muscle must also be attached to a fixed part of the skeleton.

Skeletal Muscle Pairs. To move bones in opposite directions, skeletal muscles often consist of muscle pairs that work in opposition to one another. For example, when the biceps muscle (on the anterior of the upper arm) contracts, it can cause the elbow joint to flex or bend the arm (flexion), as shown in Figure (PageIndex{5}).

10.2: Interactions of Skeletal Muscles, Their Fascicle Arrangement, and …
Skeletal muscles do not work by themselves. Muscles are arranged in pairs based on their functions. For muscles attached to the bones of the skeleton, the connection determines the force, speed, and range of movement. These characteristics depend on each other and can explain the general organization of the muscular and skeletal systems.
