general relativity – Why does light always travel in a straight line …
For a really everyday explanation: even with Galilean relativity (everyday vector addition of velocities) something going straight at a constant velocity in one frame is still going straingt in any other frame moving at constant velocity relative to you.

Indeed, if that’s the case, the line tangent to the graph at any point t t t is always a line that coincides with the graph itself. As a consequence of that, the slope of the velocity vs time graph is equal to the constant acceleration. In uniformly accelerated linear motion, the velocity vs time graph is a straight line with slope equal to the …

Slope of a horizontal line – Khan Academy
Ben. 8 years ago. Simply put, the slope is called rise over run because to get from point A to point B, we rise (move vertically) a certain amount of units and then run (move horizontally) a certain amount of units. Example: If we have a slope of 2 on the line (y = 2x + 1), we rise 2 units and run 1 unit to get from one point to another.

• 2 comments ( 38 votes) Neil Gabrielson 4 years ago Great question! The slope is the change in y over the change in x. In the horizontal line at 2:00 , there is zero change in y, which means that the slope is 0 divided by the change in x. 0 divided by any number is 0, giving you a slope of 0. For the example at

All About Motion in a Straight Line – Unacademy
In a straight line, an object moves at a constant speed and the direction in which the object moves is the direction in which the object is moving. This linear motion, also known as rectilinear motion, is subdivided into two types: Uniform Linear Motion Non-uniform Linear Motion Uniform Linear Motion:

Why Does Light Travel in a Straight Line? | Physics Van | UIUC
A straight line is ‘In the eye of the beholder’. As far as light is concerned it travels in a straight line from point A to point B. However, for a distant observer the trajectory may be a bit curved. The reason is that the geometry of space is a bit warped near a massive gravitational source like a black hole or even the sun.

3.S: Motion Along a Straight Line (Summary) – Physics LibreTexts
Kinematics is the description of motion without considering its causes. In this chapter, it is limited to motion along a straight line, called one-dimensional motion. Displacement is the change in position of an object. The SI unit for displacement is the meter. Displacement has direction as well as magnitude.

What are position vs. time graphs? (article) | Khan Academy
So the value of the slope at a particular time represents the velocity of the object at that instant. To see why, consider the slope of the position vs. time graph shown below: [Wait, why is the vertical axis called x?] x ( m) t ( s) r i s e r u n t 1 t 2 x 1 x 2. The slope of this position graph is slope = rise run = x 2 − x 1 t 2 − t 1 .

Motion Along A Straight Line | Displacement, Speed, Velocity Notes
Equations of motion are a series of equations that can be used to give a complete description of the motion of a particle in a straight line. Consider a particle moving along a straight line with a constant acceleration (a). Suppose that its initial velocity, at time t = 0, is u. after a further time (t) its velocity has increased to v. From …
