Replication and Expression Strategies of Viruses – PMC
Summary Regardless of their genetic constitution, viral genomes are replicated, expressed, and assembled in association with living host cells. These entities do not undergo division, but rather generate new particles through the assembly of preformed components.

Interestingly, viruses do more than simply mimic host mechanisms like polyadenylation, triple helix structures, and 5′ capping to protect their transcripts from host exonucleases . Cytoplasmic viruses use diverse strategies to overcome the odds and trick the host into ignoring or even, preferentially, stabilizing their transcripts.

Positive-strand RNA virus – Wikipedia
Positive-strand RNA viruses ( +ssRNA viruses) are a group of related viruses that have positive-sense, single-stranded genomes made of ribonucleic acid. The positive-sense genome can act as messenger RNA (mRNA) and can be directly translated into viral proteins by the host cell’s ribosomes.

6.2 The Viral Life Cycle – Microbiology | OpenStax
In eukaryotic cells, most DNA viruses can replicate inside the nucleus, with an exception observed in the large DNA viruses, such as the poxviruses, that can replicate in the cytoplasm. With a few exceptions, RNA viruses that infect animal cells replicate in the cytoplasm. An important exception that will be highlighted later is Influenza virus.

Virus Structure and Classification – PMC – National Center for …
Most viruses have icosahedral or helical capsid structure, although a few have complex virion architecture. An icosahedron is a geometric shape with 20 sides, each composed of an equilateral triangle, and icosahedral viruses increase the number of structural units in each face to expand capsid size.

Abstract Viruses, entities composed of nucleic acids, proteins, and in some cases lipids lack the ability to replicate outside their target cells. Their components self-assemble at the nanoscale with exquisite precision—a key to their biological success in infection.

Packaging of Genomic RNA in Positive-Sense Single-Stranded RNA Viruses …
Nucleocapsid assembly and the RNA replication of positive-sense single-stranded RNA [ (+)ssRNA] viruses occur in the cytoplasm. In almost all (+)ssRNA viruses, nucleocapsid assembly requires packaging of the genomic RNA (gRNA) in an infected cell as nucleocapsids cannot be assembled without RNA being packaged.

RNA-Mediated Virus Assembly: Mechanisms and … – Annual Reviews
PS-mediated assembly also has profound implications for viral cell entry and evolution. Most ssRNA viruses introduce their genomes into target cells following interaction with a cellular receptor. This occurs by extrusion of the genome across membranes rather than sudden release into the cytoplasm, thus allowing to avoid silencing.

7.11: Virus Replication – Biology LibreTexts
Replication of DNA Viruses. A DNA virus is a virus that has DNA as its genetic material and replicates using a DNA-dependent DNA polymerase. The nucleic acid is usually double-stranded DNA but may also be single-stranded DNA. The DNA of DNA viruses is transcribed into mRNA by the host cell. The viral mRNA is then translated into viral proteins.
