If you’re looking to save money and don’t want a stroller that doubles into car seat carriers the Babyzen Yoyo is a good choice. It features a flip-flop-friendly one-step footbrake.
It’s also a breeze to push and feels solid when you’re navigating kerbs and woodland paths. Plus, it’s a dream to fold.
1. Babyzen YOYO2
The Babyzen YOYO2 has earned a reputation for being the ultimate stroller that is light, ideal for city dwellers as for jet-setters. This is thanks to its nimble maneuverability and fold-down design that can be incorporated into the overhead luggage of an aeroplane. The latest version has independent suspension on all 4 wheels constructed of Hytrel elastomer, allowing it to ‘perfectly traverse all terrains and types’.
The base YOYO2 frame, curved fabric bassinet and six-month color pack combine to form a stylish pushchair that’s easy to look at and has a subtle but elegant aesthetic and tasteful branding. The base frame alone weighs just under a kilo and is so light you can easily lift it out of the box (and do it using one hand).
The hood, for example is able to snap onto the YOYO2 with a reassuring way. It’s also machine washable up to 30 degrees which helps avoid stains caused by smushed carrot puffs and rice cakes. The Newborn Pack and bassinet can be used from birth as prams. It can also be converted into a stroller after 6 months using the YOYO connect to additional chassis.
2. Evenflo Pivot Xplore
The Evenflo Pivot Xplore is a great option for parents who are looking for a stroller that can be used in a variety of ways. The Evenflo Xplore can be converted from a stroller into a wagon by simply flipping the handle. Parents can then decide which one is the best fit for their journey. The wagon can accommodate one or two children from 6 months to 5 years, and it comes with a large storage basket that can accommodate all of your on-the-go needs.
The Xplore also has two canopies that turn from the front to the back, offering ample sun coverage for all family members. It also has a footwell, which is not as deep or wide as other wagons, which means it may not be suitable for long excursions or for napping.
The frame of the Xplore feels solid and sturdy, although it does not have the same flexibility as other wagons we have tested. It is also more difficult than other wagons to fold, and it isn’t able to lock securely once folded. It is easy to move, however, and it can fit through narrow doors of 28 inches.
3. Delta Children LX Side-by-Side
This basic double stroller from Delta Children is an excellent option for parents seeking a budget-friendly secondary travel stroller. It scored highly in our Strollers & Multiples Test for its weight and folded dimensions. This means it’s lightweight and compact when folded and easy to carry and put in a trunk of a car. It also offers an adjustable reclining seat that can be positioned in several positions as well as an adult cup holder. Other key features include two large hanging storage bags and 360-degree front wheels that absorb shock.
In our test of the push and turn it performed better than most of the other strollers that we tried, but it’s not the most comfortable to maneuver over uneven ground or through narrow doors. The sunshades are among the most compact we tested, with only a direct overhead coverage and no windows that peek out. The UPPAbaby G-Link 2 has a more extensive canopy.
The Delta took us just over 3 minutes to put together using an average manual and no components required tools. It’s missing some features that we consider essential for double strollers. This includes an extra-large basket, reclining seats and leg rests that can be adjusted.
4. Maxi-Cosi Zelia 2-in-1
The Zelia is Maxi-Cosi’s newest pushchair, and is advertised as an urban travel system. It is designed to take baby from birth up to around 3.5 years old, and can be converted into a seat and carrycot with a few clicks. It is compatible with Maxi Cosi capsule car seats. It comes with a lightweight Mico 30 infant seat, a stay-in car-base and a reversible car seat.
The seat can be reclined with one hand and the large shopping basket makes it easy for parents to get their child in and out. Although it is a narrow pushchair it handled the everyday bumps with ease and was able to pass through doorways without any fuss.
The front wheels can to be locked in a forward-facing position and can also rotate. This is helpful for navigating through rough terrain. We allowed the front wheels to swivel on our walk along a stony path. It handled the situation well, though it did seem to be a bit rougher.
5. Baby Jogger City Tour 2,
