Why / How do the animatronics actually kill you?
In the first game it is stated that the animatronics think you’re a skeleton without a suit and stuff you in one, which of course kills you. How ever, in the second game, the phone guy mentions that during the night, they think they’re in the wrong room and just go look for some people.

They could simply be knocked out. There’s nothing that implies either circumstance. FNAF4: A panic attack of sorts.

Why do the animatronics kill you? (security breach spoilers)
From my understanding in fnaf 1 & 2 the animatronics kill you because they don’t know who william afton is or who they were killed by, the animatronics in 4 not actually being real and springtrap killing you in any appearance because, well, he’s a serial killer.

The 2nd game Withereds kill you because of soul revenge and Toys kill you because of some system tamper thingy (I don’t think the toys aren’t possessed, alot of people do think they are though so that’s why you’ll always get a different answer when you bring up this question)
