Asking to add payment method when sending funds to friend via email

Description

I’m trying to send some money (£50.00) to a friend via his email address which I’ve double and triple checked. Add the amount, go to next, then get asked to add a payment method? I’ve had the same bank account linked to and verified with my PayPal for year and use it nearly daily, why is it not present to use when sending to this friend? I instead get promted to add a payment method and even adding the same card details again fails. Any ideas?
